375,000 visitors to Matisse to Malevich at Hermitage Amsterdam

In the course of the exhibition Matisse to Malevich, the Hermitage Amsterdam welcomed some 375,000 visitors and guests. More than 4,700 schoolchildren took part in an educational programme at the Hermitage for Children, and 11,000 children under the age of 16 visited individually or with their families.

The rich programme of related activities, including talks, workshops, concerts, and theatrical performances, consistently drew large audiences. The exhibition catalogue was one of the most popular items at the museum shop, with a total of 17,500 copies sold. The 75 masterpieces from the Hermitage in St Petersburg, by Matisse, Picasso, Van Dongen, De Vlaminck, Derain, and many of their contemporaries, could be admired from 6 March to 17 September.

Tomorrow, 18 September, a major exhibition on the life of a great Macedonian and Greek hero opens to the public: The Immortal Alexander the Great: the myth, the reality, his journey, his legacy (18 September 2010 – 18 March 2011). This exhibition will also be accompanied by a range of interesting activities, both serious and light-hearted, from art history lectures to philosophical consultation – something for everyone!
