Hermitage Amsterdam

The Hermitage Amsterdam is managed by the Dutch Stichting Hermitage aan de Amstel and shows art from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The Stichting Hermitage aan de Amstel commissions the Stichting Producties De Nieuwe Kerk en Hermitage Amsterdam to organise the exhibitions at the Hermitage Amsterdam. The Hermitage Amsterdam is an independent and autonomous legal entity with its own money flows and its own objectives.

Our mission

The Hermitage Amsterdam aims to use art and history to inspire, enrich and above all offer opportunity for reflection. With our diverse exhibition and supplementary programming, the Hermitage Amsterdam presents the world heritage of one of the greatest museums – the State Hermitage in St Petersburg – to Dutch and international visitors. We take inspiration from the historical ties between Amsterdam and St Petersburg and between the House of Orange-Nassau and the Romanovs. We believe that innovation and education are essential. The Hermitage for Children offers special art education for the youngest generation. As an enterprise, we take pride in the fact that we finance our activities from our own resources, with support from the business community and private individuals.

The Stichting Producties De Nieuwe Kerk en Hermitage Amsterdam

The Stichting Producties De Nieuwe Kerk en Hermitage Amsterdam organises exhibitions at the Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam and at the Hermitage Amsterdam at the request of both bodies. They have earned a place of their own within the national and international museum world.

The Stichting Producties De Nieuwe Kerk en Hermitage Amsterdam has 50 employees in 3 departments. We also make use of a pool of about 100 workers on stand-by who man the ticket desk, cloakroom and shops. Click here for the organogram.
