From the spring of 2009 the Hermitage Amsterdam presents the following exhibitions:

Opening exhibition: Russian Court Life
Russian Court Life centres on a day at the Russian court: an official reception given by the Tsar and his family, with the accompanying ceremony. The exhibition is set in the 19th century because court ceremony was at its height then. The Russian tsars and their court held a great appeal at that time for other European monarchs and nobles. The exhibition will be a 'fountain' of Russian, West European and exotic objects which together present a cross section of the rich collections of the State Hermitage Museum.

Autumn 2009-autumn 2010
Modern art from the Hermitage
As well as Old Masters, the Hermitage has early modern art from the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. This kind of art was collected mainly by private individuals. After the October Revolution of 1917 many works ended up in the Hermitage. The exhibition will present an outstanding selection from this surprisingly rich collection.

Spring 2010-autumn 2010
Alexander the Great and the Road to the East
Alexander the Great radically changed history and the political situation in antiquity. Through his conquests he also pushed back the frontiers of Greek culture to far into the East. Later on this process was given the name of Hellenism.

The exhibition covers all the lands Alexander came into contact with on his campaign of conquest in the East: Persia, Egypt, Afghanistan, India, up to the borders of Mongolia. This makes it the first exhibition to present Hellenism on such a large scale as a global process of reciprocal influence between different civilisations and cultures.
